We have now added a further Savernake Forest Walk, called ‘Wartime Wander’ - this is walk covering most of the area of the forest that was used as an ammunition dump from 1940 to 1949. Many hundreds of UK and US servicemen were stationed in several camps around the forest, and although nothing is left of the buildings themselves (excepting one ammunition store), there is still evidence of the wartime activities in Savernake - hopefully no live shells!
